Aim: Explaining the importance of pinging your Blogspot blog for quicker page indexing
I own a number of blogs using either the Blogspot or Wordpress platform. What I've noticed in comparison (among many things) is how WP has much more consideration when it comes to SEO. For example, in WP you can manually edit article URL stubs, but in Blogspot you can't (read my article 'How You Can Use Post URL's To Improve Blogspot SEO' to overcome this). Another thing I've noticed - and what this article is focused on - is how WP automatically pings a blog page every time it's edited, whereas Blogspot blogs don't.
What is pinging? Pinging is a service which notifies a search engine when blog content has been updated. When a URL is pinged, search engines such as Google are much quicker to react where your newly made blog article (or edited blog article) gets indexed faster. Whereas an article that hasn't been pinged might take a day or two to be indexed by search engines, a pinged article might only take a few hours.
Pinging is also a great tool when you start link building. For example, when I'm commenting on blogs I always list down the URL's in Notepad. When I've finished, I ping all the URL's to let Google (and the other search engines know) that the contents on each page has changed. This means that my newly made backlinks are being indexed and accounted for quicker, which in turn should rank my blog higher in the SERP's faster.
So how do we go about pinging? If you type a search term such as 'Pinging Blogs' into Google, there will be several websites which offer this service for free. I recommend Ping-O-Matic.
1) Enter your 'Blog Name', 'Blog URL' and 'Feed URL' into the input boxes (if you haven't made a FeedBurner feed, check out this link).
2) Tick all the 'Common Services' and the 'Specialised Services' and then click 'Send Pings'.
3) It's as easy as that, congratulations on pinging your blog!
One word of warning! Supposedly pinging multiple times for the same URL can have a detrimental affect on your blog; search engines just don't like it. I can't see this being too much of a problem, as you would have web masters abusing it by pinging their competitors websites multiple times. I recommend pinging once, and only when you have new content that you want indexing fast.

if i update my blog after every 5 hours, then should i ping after every 5 hours?
@ Sara Just ping that particular article or page you've recently updated. If your update concerns on-page SEO such as META description or keyword adding, I would definitely recommend pinging. If its just corrections or other things not related to on-page SEO, just let the search engine robots find it for themselves; as it's not going to effect your rankings in anyway. If you have had a blog indexed by Google for awhile, it shouldn't take long for the search engines to acknowledge these changes. Hope this helps!
first time I pinged my blog........thanks for the article.......
@ Sam Glad it helped you, thanks!
